INTEGRATED TRANSPORT AND WEATHER INFORMATION PILOT Briefing

North East software companies and developers interested in exploring opportunities linked to weather and transport data are invited to attend a short briefing session in Newcastle this week.

The Integrated Transport and Weather Information Pilot (ITWIP) is a pilot project that will combine unique weather data from the Met Office with locally generated transport, environmental and logistical information.

The pilot will be around an integrated transport & logistics use case, and explore the range of applications and services that could benefit or be developed.

The purpose of the project is to provide new business opportunities to North East software companies. The pilot will do this by
opening up and giving priority access to never before available weather and transport data to North East software companies. Data will be easily accessible through a single, well documented portal.

The pilot will also involve a broad range of potential customers keen to explore and develop new solutions to their business challenges. Customers include organisations and companies such as Network Rail, Eddie Stobart, the Freight Transport Association, Local Authorities and many more.

This project has been developed in partnership with Sunderland Software City, the Met Office, Connected Digital Economy Catapult and Transport Systems Catapult and has been established in the North East due to the breadth and depth of software companies who can quickly innovative and commercialise products and services.

Sunderland Software City are hosting a short awareness session on 23rd January designed to help North East software companies and developers understand the business opportunities the ITWIP project will bring.

Taking place between 4.30pm – 6pm at Room 7 in Newcastle at the INEX Building (situated in the Herschel Building, number 17 on this map: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/about/visit/printablemaps/map-campus.htm) this session is open to anyone interested in exploring opportunities and solutions linked to weather and transport data.

More information can be found on the ITWIP website at http://itwip.www.ssc-old.preceptdemo.co.uk/
